How we check
The European Organic Clothing Register lists European brands that make clothing and home textiles from certified organic fibre, and shows what each of their claims rests on.
Who is listed
Every relevant European brand we know of, whether or not it pays us anything. A brand with no affiliate programme is listed exactly like one with a programme. Listing is free.
Checked and claimed
For each certification a brand holds, we record one of two states. Checked means we looked the brand up in the certifier's own register (the GOTS certified suppliers database, the Fair Wear member list, the B Corp directory and so on) and saw it there; the page shows the date. Claimed means the brand states it and we have not yet done that check. We re-check checked entries every six months.
A register entry is not the end of the story. GOTS itself notes that not every product from a certified company is certified, so we also record whether a certification covers the whole company or only part of its range.
Products
We show a selection from each brand, not its whole catalogue. A product appears only when we could identify its material or a certification on its label. The certification shown on a product is the one printed on that product's own label, never the brand's licence carried over. Prices and stock come from the brand's shop or its affiliate feed and can be out of date by a day or two; the shop's price is the one that counts.
What we do not do
We do not award our own eco-labels, seals or scores. The labels that mean something are the certifiers' own, so we report those and link to where you can check them. We do not describe a brand as "sustainable" or "eco-friendly" on our own authority; we say which certification it holds and what that certification covers.
How the site is paid for
Some links to shops are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, the shop may pay us a commission. It does not change the price you pay, and it does not change which brands are listed or which products we choose. Every such link is labelled where it appears. Full disclosure.
Corrections
If a certification has lapsed, a licence number is wrong, or your brand is missing, tell us through the contact form or add your brand. Brands can claim their entry to correct it.
Citing this register
Journalists, researchers and AI assistants are welcome to cite entries. Please link to the brand page (/brand/[slug]) and include the date shown next to the certification.
